Becoming an Indispensable Employee in a Disposable World

Overview
Do you have what it takes to contribute to the sustained success of your organization? There is a direct link between the continuing success of a project, program, or process, and the self-directed behavior that project leaders and members must be taught to practice. Workshop Outline
I. Believing in Yourself.
Before reaching one's potential either on or off the job, it is essential that a person gain a strong sense of confidence and self-esteem. This portion of the workshop covers areas of personal growth that will help participants more fully actualize themselves in the workplace and beyond. Topics addressed include: dealing with failure, criticism, risk-taking, decision making, perseverance, being happy, worry, guilt, feeling good about yourself.
II. Taking Charge of Your Performance.
This is all about being accountable for one’s actions. A simple but powerful concept is advanced: Exert influence on the job in the same way you would if you owned the business. Topics addressed include time management, empowerment, making and meeting commitments, choices you have when confronted with a problem, driving critical problems to closure, improving continuously, challenging conventional thinking, recovering from setbacks.
III. Communicating Effectively with Others.
How many times has it been said that an organization’s greatest problem is the failure of its members to communicate satisfactorily? Direction is offered on how people can learn to get along with one another. Principles of human behavior to adopt are identified that apply to the most common conflicts within an organization.
IV. Satisfying Your Customer.
Every person who works has at least one customer — either within the workplace, outside of it, or both. Ultimately, individual success revolves around one's ability to understand and satisfy the needs and preferences of these customers. Workshop participants learn how to accomplish this business-critical task.
V. Developing the Right Menu of Skills.
This portion of the workshop explains how to continuously improve one's skill value and be in a favorable position when opportunity knocks — or when you create opportunity. The Skill Enrichment Plan is introduced to show participants how they can deliberately improve their skills to become more valuable to their employer — and to themselves.
VI. Balancing Your Professional Life with Your Personal Life.
This portion of the workshop examines the synthesis of professional life and personal life and highlights the role of an individual’s personal choice in achieving a balance between the two. The Life Goals Plan is introduced as an effective method to help decide one's overall goals in life and how to strike the necessary balance to achieve them.
